It might surprise you to know that, even with all the technologies and data sources out there today, energy usage in multi-family, multi-meter buildings isn’t very well understood. The data’s trapped in utility systems, and getting it out isn’t easy. If we’re ever going to reduce consumption, we have to start with a baseline. Much of my work at Calico Energy focused on communicating the urgency behind whole building benchmarking—and the Calico’s unique utility data tracking and presentment product for building owners and managers (not to mention utilities facing new state & local ordinances).
